Hare's Rest is a 25 acre environmentally friendly and sustainable farm 15km north of Taupo.
'The Lodge' is a stand-alone, architecturally designed cottage, comprising a generous open space which includes a queen bed (which can be curtained off), living, dining and kitchen. Off the sleeping area is a shower room and separate toilet/hand basin.
Up to two additional guests can be accommodated in 'The Walnut' which is a bedroom (queen bed, luggage rack, chest of drawers, mirror and a chair) separated from The Lodge by a short outdoor deck. Members of your party staying in the Walnut can access The Lodge toilet directly off the deck without coming through the Lodge at night.
The Lodge is self-catering and has a well provisioned kitchen for those who enjoy cooking. Full continental and cooked breakfast provisions are provided, including homemade bread and sweet treats. We endeavor to use organic or free-range products.
We have a number of water hazards on the property, so we don't encourage toddlers, and the sleeping arrangements are more suitable for 2 couples or 1 couple and another adult. We can however accommodate a baby (bring your own carry cot) or one child over 5 in a (comfortable) fold down bed.
We are completely off grid (solar power) and we harvest rain water. We have a wood burner in the Lodge and the wetback heats the water in winter. During summer, hot water is heated from the solar during daylight hours.
There is free wifi of which is excellent quality and high-speed as well as internet telephone. We do not get great cellphone coverage, but if you need to pick up texts or make international calls, there are a couple of spots in the garden you can pick this up, or at the end of the drive if you care to explore our farm. As we are completely off grid there is no television, however if you do bring your mobile or laptop you are able to do internet T.V. on demand. Please note for overseas guests you will only be able to access New Zealand television on demand.
The Lodge and Walnut overlook gardens, mature exotic trees, natives and farmland. There are outdoor areas you can dine alfresco and you are welcome to take a picnic and find a spot under a shady tree. We encourage our guests to enjoy the gardens and use the walking tracks. Also on the property is a small vineyard (not yet in production), a truffiere and we run a few sheep.
We have a well behaved year old German Wire-haired Pointer, Meg. We are amenable to guests bringing a well behaved dog, provided they sleep on their own bed in The Lodge.
Please note: we don't usually take one night bookings during weekends.
