GUEST REVIEWS
Want to see more reviews - as at Nov 2024 we have received over 50 5 star reviews on our google maps site Adele and Marc - Wairarapa - September 2024 We recently stayed at Hare’s Rest which will be our third visit. In fact we find it hard to go anywhere else! As always the lodge was quite simply, exceptional. From crisp bed linen and super comfy bed, beyond generous provisions (we barely need to take any food), cleanliness (important to us), tranquility, closeness to nature, THE most accommodating and friendly hosts and all a very short drive to Taupo … Hare’s Rest is very hard to beat. This visit we went to the Wairakei Thermal pools (about a 10 minute drive?) where they have adult-only pools - excellent facilities, clean, very friendly staff (Hare’s Rest provide towels for hot pools plus robes). Then back to Hare’s Rest to lounge by the fire, listen to jazz and enjoy a glass while gazing out on the beautiful dell in front of the lodge … that’s what great getaways are made of. Adele and Marc - Wairarapa - August 2020 From the moment we drove down the meandering drive to the private, landscaped gardens surrounding the Lodge, we knew we had picked our accommodation well. Private and nestled amongst rolling, wooded hills, this place is very special indeed. The Lodge is exceptionally well appointed and we wanted for nothing. There were very generous breakfast provisions (including homemade bread and organic muesli … and then GF options magically appeared!) and the most comfortable bed with luxurious linen meant the best sleep ever. It really is a place to come and stay at least two nights (the second night is discounted) to truly maximise your visit to the region. If you long for a place to recharge, relax and feel like you’re a million miles from anything - this is the place. Take an easy walk around low-lying hills, through the gardens, enjoy the sculptures, the native birds and the absolute peace and quiet. A very short drive to Taupo if you miss people or need a top up of supplies. Alli and Glyn are perfect hosts - around just enough to ensure we had everything we needed before leaving us to enjoy the surroundings. Andrea - Tauranga - July 2020 Absolutely gorgeous place to stay! Amazing hosts, so friendly and approachable. Alli, you make a divine bread and the produce supplied for breakfast each day was delicious. Love the fireplace, makes the place cosy and warm. Peaceful spot with lovely outlook. Saw 3 wood pigeons chatting away in the trees. Nick and Elaine - Hawkes Bay - June 2020 "We are return visitors to Hare’s Rest and can undoubtedly say it is one of our favourite spots. Just a short drive out of Taupo, you are immediately taken by the winding driveway that takes you on a mini trip through paddocks, vines and natives to wind round to the Lodge. Nestled in beautiful grounds, the Lodge is a warm, spacious yet intimate space that is beautifully decorated, fully equipped and with the world’s most comfortable bed! The fireplace is a plus in the winter and the pizza oven in the back courtyard sets a scene for wonderful al fresco dinners in warmer weather. The grounds beautifully kept. Walking through them is a such a pleasure and the sense of retreating into nature cannot be overstated. We especially appreciated being able to stay with our dog who loved all the open space as well as opportunity to chase rabbits. The hosts Glyn and Alli are wonderful people who offer hospitality from the heart. Not to mention Allie’s incredible bread and muesli! The breakfast is first class. Hare’s Rest has so much to offer and must be experienced. Glyn has expert knowledge of the area so be sure to get tips from him on things to do and places to visit that that are special to Taupo. Thanks Alli and Glyn for sharing your slice of paradise with us. 10 stars!!" Komal (party of 4) - Auckland - May 2020 "Thank you so much for the most wonderful weekend. From freshly baked bread, afghans and the divine breakfast goodies, to helping us with the pizza oven; it was magical. We appreciated your hospitality, particularly welcoming our pups. We loved exploring the grounds, eating our wood-fired pizzas and indulging in the complimentary wine, while playing scrabble in front of the fire. We will definitely be back very soon. Tnx again!" Frank & Mandy - Melbourne - Feb 2020 "A sublime retreat, occupying exquisitely landscaped grounds, Hare’s Rest is supremely comfortable and tastefully decorated. Thoughtful and luxurious inclusions like the linen napkins, plush toweling robes and embroidered pillowcases create a sense of considered luxury. The breakfast provisions and home made jams and slice were delicious and generous. The hosts have thought of everything to create a warm and relaxing environment." Jan, Mirka and Nina - Czechoslovakia - Jan 2020 "We travel a lot but this accommodation was one of the most beautiful and comfortable we had. Not only the Lodge is in the beautiful surroundings but the interior of the place is just perfect. Moreover, Alli and Glyn are very friendly and helpful owners (they even send me my forgotten shoes back). Everyday we had fresh groceries for breakfast, all homemade or organic. And not to mention the fresh baked goodies from Alli (which were delicious). We stayed for three nights but we wish we could stay in accommodation like Hare’s Rest everyday of our trip. Thank you for everything, Alli and Glyn" Manisha & Neil - Singapore - Jan 2020 "Hare’s Rest is so incredibly beautiful inside and out that we felt compelled to extend our stay within 5 minutes of arriving, something we’ve never had reason to do in all our years of traveling! Plus Glyn and Alli really know how to care for guests. It’s the little details that just take your breath away . We would recommend it hands down to anyone looking to escape the humdrum of daily life - a short weekend or a longer stay on your trip to Taupo ." Paul & Andrea - Alexandra, NZ - Jan 2020 "The lodge was beautiful, comfortable bed, extremely well appointed kitchen. The breakfast food supplied was amazing. Freshly baked bread included and Afghans biscuits. The hosts go above and beyond to make sure your stay is comfortable. Wish we could have stayed longer. Such a quiet tranquil spot among the native bush and birds." Nick and Jackie, London - Jan 2020 We arrived at Hare’s Rest on New Year’s Day and it was a great treat. Alli and Glyn were very welcoming and the lodge is tastefully decorated and comfortable. Alli prepared a wonderful antipasto platter for us and we enjoyed it with some great wine on the deck admiring the gardens and observing the wildlife. After a good night’s sleep we took the opportunity to walk around the grounds which have been beautifully landscaped before enjoying Alli’s delicious home-made bread and other breakfast treats. We would highly recommend a stay at The Lodge at Hare’s Rest. Naomi, Gisborne- Oct 2019 "Beautiful serenity, peaceful, no phone coverage, very clean, warm welcoming owners. The beautiful homemade touches gave this villa a welcoming and homegrown feeling. From the scenery to the interior decor the homemade bread and the cute little fire place. An absolute perfect place to rejuvenate the mind body and soul 👌🏽👌🏽" |
